South Korea takes delivery of fast combat support ship ROKS Soyang (AOE-51)

Defense Acquisition Program Administraion announced on September 7th that Hyundai Heavy Industries successfully delivered the fast combat support ship ROKS Soyang (AOE-51) to the Republic of Korea Navy.

ROKS Soyang  is a product of AOE-II program, which aims to complement the existing fleet of AOE-I Cheonji-class fast combat support ships and to better support the Navy's blue-water operations, such as those conducted by the 7th Maritime Task Flotilla. ROKS Soyang was launched in November 2016 and can carry 2.3 times more supply than existing Cheonji-class AOEs.

Displacement: 10,000 tons (empty) / 23,000 tons (full)

Size: 190m/25m/8m

Propulsion: Diesel-electric Hybrid

Speed: 24 knots (max) / 15 knots (cruise)

Range: 5,500 NM

Crew: 140

Armament: 1 x 20mm Phalanx CIWS

Decoy: MASS

Load: 10,000 tons of fuel + 1,000 tons of ammunition and food

Aircraft: Helicopter Hangar
