Joint military-civil investigation team revealed the cause of the crash, attributing it to faulty component provided by Airbus Helicopters. The component in question is a "Rotor Mast" that connects the rotor to the airframe's gearbox. The investigation team ruled that cracked rotor mast caused the rotor to detach from the airframe, leading the airframe to plummet ot the ground.
This particular component was specifically designed for the MUH-1 and was imported from Airbus Helicopters by Korea Aerospace Industries. Investigation team suspects poor heat-treating of the component cause the issue, and stated that same crack was found on two out of three MUH-1 currently in service with the Republic of Korea Marine Corps.
